York County Deeds, Orders, and Wills Book 7--Labor Complaints 25 January 1685/6 Whereas Richd. Curtise sueing mr. Richd. Davis to this Court and by his Attony mr. Richd. Moore setting forth and pleadeing that the sd. Davis had contrary to Act of Assembly by indirect waies and meanes got the said Curtise into Indenture before his time by his first Indenture was expired to serve the sd. Davis five Yeares for noe consideration but what is allowed by the Custome of the Country which being made appeare It is therefore Ordered that the said Curtise be free from his said Service of five Yeares and the Indenture void and that Davis pay him his Corne and Cloathes and Costs hereof als Execution. Source: York County Deeds, Orders, and Wills (7) 133. 24 March 1686/7 Whereas Alexander Mackdaniell by his petio: made appear that hee bought a woman Servant of mr Thomas Mountfort, by name Margery Crow, which was to serve three yeares by the said Mountforts Assignmt. and Itt appearing to this Court that the said Crow, haveing served but two yeares of the time aforesaid was sett free att a Court held for new kent County ye. 29th. day of March 1686 Itt is Therefore Ordered that the said Mountfort pay to ye. said Alex: Mackaniell the sume of seaven hundred pounds of tobacco & Cask and to pay all former and present Costs of suite also Exo.
